Wright Brothers Orville and Wilbur Commemorative Bronze Plaque Medal.
Obverse: Wright brothers facing left and their names. Within a laurel wreath: the Seal of the United States . To the bottom left of the busts: RESOLUTION/ OF CONGRESS/ MARCH 4/ 1909. Inscription below: "In · RECOGNITION · AND · APPRECIATION/ OF · THEIR · ABILITY · COURAGE · AND/SUCCESS · IN · NAVIGATING · THE · AIR. Reverse: A winged figure with a torch, the Genius of Aviation, in flight and the inscription above: SHALL · MOUNT · UP · WITH · WINGS · AS · EAGLES. The Medal was awarded by resolution of Congress (H.J. Resolution 246), "in recognition of the great service of Orville and Wilbur Wright, of Ohio, rendered the science of aerial navigation in the invention of the Wright aero plane, and for their ability, courage, and success in navigating the air." Awarded on March 4, 1909, and presented to them at a ceremony in Dayton.
