    Available is a rare lot of 5 front pages that came from October 12-16, 1927 New York Times Newspapers. Each front and back of the page covers the historic flight by Ruth Elder to become the first woman to pilot an airplane and cross the Atlantic.
    Ruth Elder was an aviation pioneer and actress. She carried private pilot certificate P675, and was known as the "Miss America of Aviation." She was a charter member of the Ninety-Nines.[3]
    In October 1927 she took off from New York in the Stinson Detroiter American Girl, with George Haldeman as pilot, in an attempt to become the first woman transatlantic airplane flyer. Mechanical problems caused them to ditch the plane 360 miles from the Azores, but they established a new over-water endurance flight record of 2,623 miles. It was also at the time the longest flight ever made by a woman. Rescued by a ship, she and George were honored with a ticker-tape parade upon their return.
    Condition
    The newspaper pages are in good condition.
    These newspaper pages originally came from a bound library volume and may exhibit slight chipping and paper loss on the edges.
    Domestic Shipping
    The pages will be placed in a clear plastic sleeve and gently rolled and inserted into a sturdy cardboard tube. Single newspaper pages can be shipped via First Class Mail. Please specify if expedited Priority Mail is desired. I will combine shipping but additional newspaper pages will require Priority Mail shipping due to weight.
